Denmark still leading cleantech investor

Venture capital investment in EU clean technology companies fell in 2009 compared with 2008. But Europe’s share of global venture capital increased and Denmark is among top five investors.

The financial crisis has also had its impact on investments in clean tech. But Europe has increased its global share of cleantech investments.

The leading sector has been energy efficiency, which more than doubled its share of investment to 304 million US dollars, according to a recent report issued by the analyst Cleantech Group and consultants Deloitte.

The leading country for investment was the UK followed by Norway, Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Denmark has a range of companies specialised in energy efficiency from Danfoss that produces control systems to the insulation company Rockwool.
